Publication is an important part of every excavation and every excavation has an obligation to publish its results. The Sardis project has published a series of books, each dealing with a particular type of material (glass, for example) or a specific area of the site (such as the bath-gymnasium complex). The publications in this ongoing series are directed toward scholars and libraries. The expedition archives include inventory cards, architectural and object drawings, photographs, and excavation and conservation reports, all of which are used extensively for publication. It is always a consideration how long an excavation should engage in active fieldwork, but the Sardis Expedition continues to make exciting discoveries.
