Question: I'm really amazed looking at you eight reporters, some
of you I worked with on the Crimson and I've known you all my life.
You're talking about the media, not one of you mentioned your own
ethical dilemma. You didn't address CNN accusing troops of shooting
reporters. You didn't mention the Newsweek fiasco. You didn't mention
Dan Rather. You didn't mention what the New York Times has been doing.
You didn't mention the fact that the New York Times, the Washington
Post, and the L.A. Times have shifted their editorial page to the front
page. You didn't mention the fact that only 40% of the people trust the
media today and it was 70% when we graduated. I say you should better
look to your own ethics and your own profession, I'd like to hear you
talk about what you think has happened in the professional ethics of
reporting not about the government. It's what you people are saying to
"us, as citizens", and why you think we're not reading it or watching it. Question: I'm a former reporter. I am really outraged by the way the present administration manages to change the subject and what we just heard from the man on my left is a typical example of changing the subject. The President of the United States plainly evaded a military service, everybody knows that and we got to talking about Dan Rather who used some shabby journalism, but we forgot what the story was about and this has happened again and again and again with the present administration they change the subject, they say they're outraged by what the press is doing. With the business with Koran down the toilet, we've forgotten what's going on in Guantanamo. This is disgusting and I can't understand how people can sit around and ignore it. |
