Dan Weinstein started skating at the age of 12 when his parents saw an article about speed skating in the Boston Globe. Short track speed skating has never been one of the limelight sports, so from the beginning he had to do his own thing and manage his own practice. By the age of 15, he had already won a junior world championship. But even though he found himself skating everyday, he never made it his life. After a not very productive six months at the Olympic training center in Colorado, he returned home with the realization that making the sport his life wasn't going to make him an Olympian. Training back in the Boston area, where he didn't have to dedicate his life to practice, his skating quickly came together and at 16 he became the youngest skater to ever place at the Olympics. He continued to follow the same approach to skating while at Harvard, where he managed to have a life outside of the sport while at the same time placing 4th in the 2002 Olympics.
