Study Group Success
Recently, in response to findings suggesting the effectiveness of group study in the sciences, many faculty members have restructured their homework assignments so that they are actually designed for groups. Also, more professors not only mention the value of study groups outside of class, but actually create such groups.

Professor Light details some findings:

  • In 1990, 55% of the students who originally said they wanted to concentrate in science remained science majors until graduation.

After Study Groups Finding and Implementation:
  • 1997 = 57% remained science majors until graduation
  • 1998 = 59% remained science majors until graduation
  • 1999 = 61% remained science majors until graduation
  • 2000 = 63% remained science majors until graduation
