Introduction to the Curricular Review
For the first time since the 1970s, Harvard College is undergoing a comprehensive curricular review. Now in the early stages, this review process will involve all aspects of undergraduate education, from study across the disciplines to concentrations; from extracurricular activities—including study abroad, artistic endeavors, and public service—and how to integrate such endeavors into formal academic work to the College calendar.
At the heart of this review of the almost thirty-year old Core curriculum is the question of what are Harvard's goals for general undergraduate education in the 21st century. In order to address these goals, four working group committees, each comprised of twelve members—six senior members of the faculty, two junior faculty members, two undergraduates, a senior administrator, and a graduate student—have been formed to conduct and coordinate the review, focusing on student's overall academic experience, pedagogy, general education, and concentrations.
