Teaching American Politics Introduction
2002-2003 Harvard College Fund Assembly

Teaching American Politics, featuring lectures by three Harvard faculty members, includes Mary C. Waters describing the process of teaching highly-charged political issues in the classroom, Theda Skocpol analyzing the role of civic engagement in American democracy, and Sidney Verba discussing the duty of the teacher to encourage students to objectively approach controversial political issues.

Professor of government and sociology Theda Skocpol co-teaches a Core course with Professor Mary Waters entitled "Social Analysis 54: American Society and Public Policy." Although the faculty on this panel belong to different departments at Harvard, they collaborate at the Center for American Political Studies, an interdisciplinary group of political scientists, sociologists, economists, and historians in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences with ties to other Harvard schools.
