Dean Drew Gilpin Faust introduces panel chair Jane Mangan, assistant professor of history at Harvard University, who then introduces the panelists: Professor Judith Bennett, an authority on the history of women in medieval England who is well known for her publications on feminist history; Professor Linda Seligmann, whose work focuses on the Andean region of Latin America and who has studied local economy, agrarian issues, and the intersection of gender and ethnicity; Professor Claire Robertson, a leading scholar on women in Africa who has published widely on issues of trade, women and class, and women and slavery; and Professor Emmanuel Akyeampong, a specialist on the ecology, cultural history, and social history of Africa with a special emphasis on the social history of alcohol.
